Dear Youth Player & Parents,

Youth Development Program (YDP)

As we are on the brink of going into another season of rugby, I thought I would make you all aware that our Youth Development Program (YDP) will start on Tuesday 10th September for the 2019/2020 season.

If you don’t know anything about the YDP, it’s an initiative we have put together 4 years ago and will be now going into its 5th Year. It’s funded completely by DRFC and the John Douglas Youth Development Fund. The YDP is expanding to all male and female players from U14 – U18 age groups giving them further opportunities to develop as players.

To register for the program please complete the entry form by clicking the link attached.

We have already seen 3 first players come through the program, but more importantly, all YDP players have gained a better understanding and developed improved skill sets. This years program is expanded to include talks by consultants from Spire Hospital group on injury management and prevention, nutrition and strength and conditioning from the Head of Strength and Conditioning from Saracens Academy, Scrum sessions with “Moggsy” ex- England Ladies scrum coach and Karl Dickson ex-harlequins scrum-half and current premiership referee. Whilst all U16 and up were taken through the first stage of their referee qualifications.

Our player centred DRFC YDP is broken down into 3 groups to accelerate the learning potential.

  • Under 14 – Youth Development Group – Talent Identification focusing on skill acquisition
  • Under 15/16 – Youth Development Program – Skill Development and player nurturing for demands of Colts rugby
  • Under 17/18 – Colts Academy – Focusing on the transition to senior rugby and a greater understanding of the game

The program runs every Tuesday in school terms with breaks over half term, Christmas and Easter. So in effect, we will run 4 blocks with lots of fun games and coaches deepening the boy’s rugby understanding.

Training times are:

  • Colts:                                   7pm – 9pm
  • U14 – U16 Boys &  U15/18 Girls:   7pm – 8.30pm

Coaches are:  Benji Wroblewski: Youth Transition Manager

& Dom Brockes, Leo Kane, Dan Bishop, Stevie Warr.

+ our senior players: Finn Osborne, Ben Edwards, George Spreckley, Callum McConnochie and Jake Dobson.

All the above coaches got a min of RFU level 2 coaching qualification and really good coaches with the “Dorking RFC ethos” at the core of everything they do. With the expansion of the programme, there will further integration with the age group Sunday activities overseen by Benji Wroblewski our Youth Transition Manager and the age group coaches themselves. This includes the Senior coach provision which now covers:

U12 & U13:   Tom Beal U14 & U15:   Dan Bishop

U15 & U16:   George Spreckley U16:             Killian Wilson

To register for the program please complete the entry form by clicking the link attached.

The program starts on Tuesday 4th September at 6:45 with a presentation for the Parents and Players to get a greater understanding of the program. If you got any questions then please feel free to get in touch with any of us, and we will be more than happy to help.

Kind Regards

Armand Roux – Director of Rugby –
