Club members and friends,
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is creating a great deal of concern for us all. Dorking RFC committee members have been monitoring the daily developments, updates from Government and as well as guidance from the RFU and Surrey RFU. We remain conscious of our duty of care to players, parents and all of the volunteers who together help make our festival a successful and enjoyable day for all.
Given the scale of the festival, with over 2,000 players and around 5,000 people attending, the latest developments regarding the Covid-19 situation and in the interest of player, volunteer and spectator welfare we have taken the decision to postpone the festival on Sunday 22nd March. Given the wide geographic area that rugby clubs join us from, we have decided to make the decision now to provide plenty of notice to clubs and their members.
The 2020 Dorking Kids First festival will now be on Sunday 20th September. We do recognise the close season rest period for children is important and also the start to the new season, however given the current highly unusual circumstance we hope that the revised date gives us all something to look forward to at the start of next season.
The rescheduled festival will be held on the same basis as currently planned with year groups playing under their current age group rules. We recognise that for some clubs the new date may not be suitable, we want to maintain the fantastic relationship we have with the clubs that join us at the festival. Accordingly, we will be as reasonable and flexible as possible given unusual situation.
We would like to thank you everyone for all of their hard work with organising thus far, and to everyone who volunteered to support us at the festival, we appreciate your offers of support and do hope you will be able to continue to help at our rearranged festival fixture.
We wish everyone well and hope to see you at Dorking RFC in September for fun, safe an enjoyable day of rugby.
